| Description of Events, Games & Races: Junior Roping: an event that features a dummy steer. The goal of this event is for the cowboy or cowgirl to catch the steer by throwing a loop of rope from a lariat around its horns from the start line. Senior Roping - same as junior, age appropriate. Junior Barrel Racing: a rodeo event in which a horse and rider attempt to complete a clover-leaf pattern around preset barrels in the fastest time. Knocking over a barrel shall carry a five-second penalty. Senior Barrel Racing - same as junior, age appropriate. Junior Pole Bending: a timed event that features a horse and one mounted rider, running a weaving or serpentine path around six poles arranged in a line. Knocking over a pole shall carry a five-second penalty. Failure to follow the course shall cause disqualification. A contestant may touch a pole with his or her hand in pole bending. Senior Pole Bending - same as junior, age appropriate. Barrel Bull Riding: an event that involves a rider getting on a large barrel and attempting to stay mounted with attempts to buck off the rider. In the American tradition the rider must stay atop the bucking barrel for eight seconds. The rider tightly fastens one hand to the barrel with a long braided rope. Un-Saddling Race - Gallop up, unsaddle, hop on bareback and gallop back. Taters & Buckets Race - throw 3 potatoes into bucket while mounted on your horse. All 3 must go into bucket or rider has to dismount get taters and rethrow. First horse to finish line wins. Sack Race - gallop up , off and run back in sack. First horse to finish line wins. Boot Race - take off and jumble them up at the top. Riders race to pile, find their boots, put them on, remount and race back. First horse to finish line wins. Bareback race - Riders race on Horses without saddles or pads. Dress Up Race - ride up, put on clothes kit, scarf, gloves, jacket etc, ride or run back. Must have on all clothes from pile. First horse to finish line wins. Apple Bobbing - Rider races to the barrel bobs for 3 apples, remounts and races back to the finish line. Flag Race - Rider races up to flag line grabs a flag, turns 1 circle waving flag then races to finish line. Hat Race - Hats are placed on pole. Rider must race to pole, remove hat and race to finish line. Rider gets to picnic with the owner of the hat. Obstacle Course - Horses race thru preset obstacles. First horse to finish line wins. Buddy Pick up Race - Coke Race - Baby Bottle Race - rider races to baby bottle, sucks down all contents then mounts horse and rides back. First one back wins. Boiled Egg Race - rider holds boiled egg in mouth and runs course. First one back with uncracked egg wins. Chin & Apple Race - rider rides with apple under chin, first one back without loosing apple wins. Ribbon Race - Rider races to Stick Horse Race - Youth. Contestants ride stick horses thru obstacle course to the finish line. Stick Horse Race - Adult. Same as Youth. Simon Says - Youth. 3-Legged Race - Youth. Contestant Team stands side by side and ties inside legs together. First team to sucessfully cross the finish line wins. 3-Legged Race - Adult. Same as Youth. Carrot & Cracker Race - For riders with minimum skills someone leads the horse. (Good riders may ride by themselves.) All participants line up behind the start line. Another person waits at the other end of the arena with a few crackers and a carrot. The leaders take the horse, or the horse is ridden to the waiting person. The rider then gets crackers and the horse gets the carrot. The rider has eaten the crackers and the horse has eaten all the carrot the team then races back to the finish line. WalknRide Race - In pioneer times if two people found themselves with one horse one person would walk while the other rode ahead on the horse. After a few miles the rider would tie the horse to a tree and continue on foot. The person who began walking would catch up to the horse, mount it, and ride past the second person. Again the horse would be tied, and the relay begun again. This gave each person chance to rest as they rode and some time for the horse to rest as it stood waiting for the next rider. The first team with all members crossing the finish line wins. Paint Your Pony contest - for best painted horse. Cowhide Race - Team Race. Rider races down to the waiting partner who then jumps onto cowhide and hangs on until Rider crosses the finish line. Bartlett Bag Race - Youth. Sack race for kids using Bartlett Feed Bags. Balloon Race - Youth. Kid who carries the most balloons over the finish line wins. Balloon Race - Adult. Same as Youth race. |
