Feeding Time Tips 1. With some of the Ranch horses, we feed beet pulp. Always soak your beet pulp. Never feed dry beet pulp as it will expand when it gets wet and is a potenial choking hazard for your horse. That few minutes it takes to add water to your feed bucket will save you hundreds on a vet bill. 2. If you like to cover your feed buckets like I do, you can save money on expensive bucket covers by using plastic shower caps. I bought 15 in a bag for $1 at our local Dollar Tree. They fit the feed buckets and the budget well!!

Hot Weather Tips: 1. From our friends at Lowcountry Equine SC... Use Listerine mouth wash to clean water tanks/buckets. it cuts algae quickly, kills mosquito larva, and leaves a pleasant smell (unlike bleach). If you buy an off brand make sure it has the same alchol content as the Listerine.
Hurricane Handy Hints: If a storm is coming: 1. Take pictures of your horses to help identify. 2. Keep Halters on your horses making it easier to catch them. 3. Braid your cell number, name and vet info into the horses mane or tail using a waterproof bag. 4. Always turn your horses out to pasture. 5. Keep a lead rope in handy places for a quick grap when needed. 6. Keep clean water in a barrel and hay and feed in waterproof bags. Try to keep enough for each horse to last a few days. 7. keep your horse trailer in an open area and supplied, ready to go if you must make a quick move with the horses. 8. Let your surrounding neighbors know to keep alook out in case your horses get out during the storm.
