Hey Yall,

for ways to save money. So I have put together this little tip page with
helpfull Horse Hints from the Ranch! Yall keep checking back cause I will
keep adding hints as I find them. And if anyone has a great tip they would

Feeding Time Tips

1.  With some of the Ranch horses, we feed beet pulp. Always
soak your beet pulp. Never feed dry beet pulp as it will expand
when it gets wet and is a potenial choking hazard for your
horse. That few minutes it takes to add water to your feed
bucket will save you hundreds on a vet bill.

2.  If you like to cover your feed buckets like I do, you can
save money on expensive bucket covers by using plastic
shower caps. I bought 15 in a bag for $1 at our local Dollar
Tree. They fit the feed buckets and the budget well!!
Fly Sprays

1.  A quick fly spray that works
well
18oz white vinegar
2 Tbsp dish washing soap
Mix in a spray bottle and
shake gently until well
blended. Add water to dilute.
Spray liberally on your horse.

2.  Another recipe is use equal
parts of pinesol and water.
Great for flies and knats but
make sure and avoid getting in
your horse's eyes!
Cribbing

1. My sweet friend Margie told
me this little trick for wood
chewers.  Take a bar of irish
spring soap and chip it up into
small pieces. Place the soap
chips into a empty spray bottle
and fill with water. Spray
generously on places the
horse has been nibbling. Not
only is your horse suppose to
stop cribbing, but it makes the
barn smell good too. I am
gonna try this one out this
weekend!

2. Hot sauce painted on the
wood of your stall with a paint
brush will stop some wood
chewers. I guess this is based
on the horse! lol

3.  This is a great idea
from            Phyllis Martin
Rodes...

She mixes her fly spray in a
one gallon cheap sprayer she
bought from Wal-mart, so
much easier on her hands and
more of an even flow over the
horses. No scary noises for
them either!
Hot Weather Tips:

1.   From our friends
at                   Lowcountry
Equine SC...

Use Listerine mouth wash to
clean water tanks/buckets. it
cuts algae quickly, kills
mosquito larva, and leaves a
pleasant smell (unlike
bleach). If you buy an off brand
make sure it has the same
alchol content as the Listerine.
Hurricane Handy Hints:

If a storm is coming:
1. Take pictures of your horses to help identify.
2.  Keep Halters on your horses making it
easier        to catch them.
3.  Braid your cell number, name and vet info
into the horses mane or tail using a
  waterproof bag.
4.  Always turn your horses out to pasture.
5.  Keep a lead rope in handy places for a
quick        grap when needed.
6.  Keep clean water in a barrel and hay
and              feed in waterproof bags. Try to keep
enough        for each horse to last a few days.
7.  keep your horse trailer in an open area
and          supplied, ready to go if you must make
a               quick move with the horses.
8.  Let your surrounding neighbors know to
keep       alook out in case your horses get out
during         the storm.
